KIDWINKS -- Jean

KIDWINKS -- Jean

I attended an Astro Overnight with 10 other moms and 22 girls from my daughter's Girl Scout troop last night. It was very well orchestrated so no area was crowded at any time. Each group gets a schedule of activities (including a snack, the sky theater, and some free time) when they arrive that keeps everyone busy and in different areas at different times. The sleeping bags don't come out until 10:30 pm with lights out at 11pm, which may be a little late for younger children. The 6:30 am wake up call came way too early for our group, but everyone enjoyed watching the sun rise over the lake as we had breakfast in the cafeteria. I recommend bringing an air mattress to sleep on. It was a very memorable experience for everyone. I wish we would've had time in the morning to walk along the lakefront, but we had hired a bus which arrived promptly at our designated pick up time. My daughter now wants to go to one of the sleepovers at another museum as a family so her sister and dad can experience it. That may have some advantages over a large group, because you don't need to spend time counting heads and gathering everyone together. On the other hand, the girl scouts had a great time with all of their friends. Either way, this is the kind of experience your kids will remember all of their lives.
