Great library! My boys love to use the computers - which have colorful keyboards for kids. My boys love to sit and read in the corner, near the big tree. They have a great Pokemon class for kids on Sunday afternoons. The kids play each other and learn how to play the Pokemon game. Everyone is very nice and helpful!
This is THE best library I've ever visited. For preschoolers, don't miss story time! Check online for dates and times. Their toddler/preschool activities are so popular that they sometimes have to give out tickets (go to the 2nd floor desk when you arrive), and they've added additional sessions to alleviate crowding.
The murals on the second floor are beautiful, and little kids will like the tropical fish tank (Nemo!). There are lots of fun things to keep little kids busy. Great children's book and DVD selection, including bilingual. One thing we love is to put items on hold online, then just pass through the lobby and pick them up.
You know it's a good library when you see field trips from other suburbs' park district programs visiting in the summer!
One of the nicest libraries I have been in. The kids love to play by the tree and there are computer for the kids to play on. THey use to have a train table but I think that is gone. We take the metra there and go to the Choo Choo restuarant which is across the street
My children love this library. The story times are very engaging and the librarians are so helpful and great with the kids. They love the special craft times too.
We recently saw a production of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" here and the whole series came to life for my son. It was a wonderful show and the performers were so young, too! Thank you Des Plaines Public Library!!
My niece prefers going to this library over her own library. And I think our library is great in Park Ridge. I have taken her their before and it was quite nice I have to say.
the new library has done a great job helping locals fall in love with it- the kid level is always full of reading times and crafts as well as regularly scheduled productions - my daughter and i have been to many libraries - and we still can not find one as entertaining as our own- in des plaines
Although we are not from the area, we never miss the shows that this library offers to the public--they are phemomenal. The librarian that selects the productions really knows her stuff! Some shows require registration but are all free!
This is a beautiful library, and my daughters always ask to come here. They love to play by the tree in the story area. The librarians are welcoming and helpful.
