As an educational institution the Museum offers multiple opportunities for both informal and more structured public learning. Exhibits remain the primary means of education, but throughout its history it has supplemented this approach with innovative programs.
My family and I love this museum. So many different things to see you will find something to interest everyone in your family. When we go we don't pay for extras because they are expensive for a large family. I'm sure they are fantastic, but for us the basic musuem tickets give us more than enough to keep everyone entertained for an afternoon.
Not my favorite museum, but still pretty cool. We went on a free day last year and got there early. Crowds weren't too bad. The mummy exhibit was very neat as well as seeing the Dinosaurs. But overall I feel that this museum could use more interactive exhibits (see MSI) to keep the kids attention. It's basically an old school museum with lots of reading involved, not that reading is bad, but in this day and age kids get more out of the more interactive museum experience.
The new whale exhibit is wonderful. When you park in the West lot it lets you out close to the museum - easy walk. My son was disappointed thaat the Gold exhibit is over but is looking forward to the Chocolate around the World exhibit.
Went on a free day with a 2-year-old and had a blast! You do NOT need to spend money on "extras" with a toddler/preschooler! Plenty is included in the free (or regularly priced) admission.
Tips: Get there right when they open, if possible. Enter through the stroller/groups/wheelchair entrance on the side. There was NO line there at 9 a.m. See the main museum first, while it's still empty and school field trips haven't arrived. Then head down to the Crown Family Playlab, which is right by the stroller/group entrance. There's lots to do and play with in there. Bring a lunch to save money; McDonalds and Corner Bakery do provide decent options, though!
We took transit from the suburbs, which takes some extra planning but was an adventure in itself! Better than paying for parking and sitting in traffic.
Our daughter who is 4 years old, but has been going since she was a baby, totally loves this museum. And not just the dinosaurs. I really mean the whole place. We will most definitely be making another visit. We try and do at least two a year.
We only hope that they don't continue to raise the prices especially for the folks that live in the suburbs. I mean we want to have the same benefits as those who live in the city.
This was the first summer I took the boys here, we went specifically to see mummies. It is a wonderful museum but is pricey for a one time visit, it was in our best interest to become members for a few dollars more we can return. The kids enjoy it and so do I. It has an amazing collection and even has loans from other museums, I think my favoite thing this year was the mammoths
Finally something for the toddlers here! We really like the new area for toddlers and preschoolers downstairs. My 2 daughters enjoyed making masks and paper skeletons, while my son pounded away on the drums in the music room!
My older son loves dinosaurs so this is great place to come and explore. SUe is always a big hit. My younger son used to love hanging in the toddler area, but he is now old enough to enjoy the "bones". A great way for a kid to learn about the past in a fun and beautiful environment.
We used to have a family membership. When we went this summer it was great to see all the new additions, especially the toddler explore & learn area. Great place to learn and explore.
This museum is home to Sue the t-rex. Volunteers are available to answer questions about Sue and to provide more information. Just ask. We love the Nature Walk exhibit with the "stuffed animals" and the Underground Adventure exhibit. The Underground Adventure is an extra fee but worth it for my 3 year old. If you choose to drvie to the museum; be sure to check the hours of the parking garage because some close by 5.
The field Museum is the best museum by far! My son loved the dinosaur exhibit, especially Sue. The prices in the gift shop were reasonible. There was so much to see! We all enjoyed that visit!
My toddler loves this place, especially the Underground and dinosaur exhibits. Only downside is that all the extra exhibits cost money, which can really add up for a family, plus you have to pay for parking too ($14).
