Originally formed to preserve one important piece of rolling stock, it has evolved into an educational and historic preservation organization recreating possibly the largest operating demonstration railroad showcase on the North American continent.
As many times as we've been here, I can't beleive we never reviewed it! This is an amazing collection of real trains. Great for kids as well as Grandparents. LOTS of WALKING! Take rides on antiques (included in admission fee. Walk around and touch the trains.
Went here for the Day out with Thomas event a few years ago. My train crazy son did not want to leave! Very interesting place, plenty for any kid that is into trains to do. Plus when Thomas comes in the summer, it just can't be beat!
I think the museum is very nice. I'm confused by the reviews from people who complained about it being boring unless you really like trains. Why else would you go to a railway museum?
Itook my 2yr old to the Day out with Thomas event. It was a memorable experience and iLm glad we went. I only wish it was closer. Would have loved to have gone to the Happy Holidays Railway.
Cool place to visit. Wish it was not so far from me being my husband and son are both into trains. We loved the Day out with Thomas when he was younger
My son is 2 and a train fanatic. He loved the railway museum. He walked amongst the trains acting like my tour guide pointing at each and saying choo-choo. Pack a lunch and make a day out of it! The train ride was a blast but the engineer talked for too long.
This is a great museum for train enthusiasts young and old. There are a lot of barns with trains that are still used. Father's Day offers free admission for dads.
Unless you really, really like trains and historical aspects of them, I'd stay away. For 4 of us, it ran 37.00 and we weren't impressed at all. I can't even imagine going when Thomas the train gets there. They do allow you to ride trains, but if you ride a train into work each day, it's really no big deal. We wont be going back anytime soon. My kids even thought it was boring.

I will no doubt have to revise my review when I return from My Day Out With Thomas excursion later this month but after reading all the reviews I'm confident this will be an awesome trip. This is our first mini-vacation as a family and I'm so excited. My little one LOVES Thomas and has no idea we're taking him to ride the actual train. The IRM website and Day Out With Thomas dvd has given me confidence we're all in for a lot of fun.
We really enjoyed the Day Out with Thomas at the Railway Museum. It has so many interactive things for the kids to do. For any Thomas the Train fans out there, the highlight is the ride on Thomas!!
Took my 2 kids to see Thomas the Tank Engine this past Saturday, and even they are no longer "Thomas" age, they loved it. My wife and I did as well. We will go back next year, on a non-Thomas date, as regular days are cheaper. We brought our own lunch, and parking is free!!
we went to see thomas last year with my sister and her 3 boys and i was amazed at how interesting it was. I would like to go back and take my Dad who is a train collector. Only draw back was the price was a little higher than I would of liked to pay.
So much fun, the trains are really cool. Check the schedules though, as the big trains only run on certain days and times. The little diner is still in progress and the food was pretty average at best. A bit of a drive out in the country, watch for the turn-off, easy to miss, but a fun adventure for the whole family. Not super cheap.
We also went to see Thomas but were able to enjoy many of the old trains as well. We might go back to see more since we opted for the end of the day Sunday ride with Thomas and by that time most of the other train rides were finished.
Good experience here. The old trains are fun to look at but no climbing (which was disappointing to my boys). We combined the visit with Thomas' Day Out so over all is was a good time. I am not sure we'd go back just for the regular trains.
