I recently visited Libertyville for the first time. This is a cute town that has plenty to do within walking distance of the Metra train station. After getting off the train we made our way to Milwaukee Ave and started walking south. You may want to check the movie schedule for the Liberty Theatre to see if you and the kids can catch a flick during your visit. Or, if you prefer live theatre, then check out what’s going on at the Improv Playhouse.
If your little ones are still in strollers or if they like to shop, then you’re in luck. There are many boutiques that I would have loved to visit. Unfortunately, my boys hate to shop and ever since they’ve been able to walk (which happened at 9 months for my oldest), have refused to sit in a stroller. Some of the shops I would have loved to spend some of my time and money are Serindipity, Latitude, Street Chic, Adrienne Clarisse Intimate Boutique, and Up Scale Resale, which is just what the name implies. Forest Bootery has shoes for both kids and adults. If you’re looking for kids clothes & more then stop into The Carrot Patch. You can find gifts and cards at How Impressive! and Cathy’s Garden Gate. If you have a dancer in the family then Avenue 21 Danceware is a must stop.
When you start to get hungry, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Mickey Finn’s has an outdoor seating area. If you’re hankering for breakfast, head over to The Egg Harbor Café or the Towne Square Restaurant. Both of these restaurants have children’s menus and are open only for breakfast and lunch, so make sure you keep track of the time. The Picnic Basket will pack a box lunch for you complete with a wet wipe. The Sub Depot has just as the name implies: sub sandwiches that you can eat in or take with you to the park.
When it is time to burn off some energy or eat your picnic lunch you have your choice of two parks. Both of the parks have playgrounds and picnic tables. The one closest to the train station is Cook Memorial Park and Rose Garden. If you walk on a just a little farther and cross the street you will run into Sunrise Rotary Park. I would suggest crossing at the light as the traffic can be a bit heavy, the road is quite big and not all drivers stop for people in a crosswalk. Mainstreet Libertyville has events for the little ones throughout the year..
When you’re done with your day and ready to reward yourself and your kids for their good behavior, there are two options on your way back to the train station, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Sweet Tooth Bakery.
