CYT is an after-school theater arts education program for kids ages 4-18, offering classes in the Aurora, DuPage, Kane, Kenosha (WI), Lake, McHenry, NW Cook, Oak Park, and Rockford County areas. Three sessions are conducted each year, beginning in the fall. Week-long summer camps are offered in all regions as well. CYT offers students an opportunity to develop their talents, interact with friends and learn to be a positive member of their community.
Toward the end of each session, a fully-staged musical production is presented for a run of up to two weekends. Students ages 8-18 currently enrolled in the session have the opportunity to audition for the show.
CYT Musical Theater Summer Camp is one of of the most affordable quality musical theatre camps in Illinois/WI. Campers are placed on a team (red, green, blue etc). In the morning, they rotate with their team to a variety of theater classes including dance, drama & voice taught by qualified instructors. After lunch, summer campers play exciting outdoor games before they come together with all the teams for showcase rehearsal. All campers perform in the musical theater showcase at the end of the week, featuring a variety of songs, dances and drama. Our Jr. campers enjoy a fast paced, condensed structure to keep them engaged while learning theater basics. Last year 3,500 campers attended CYT camp in over 30 Chicago locations.
My daughters just finished a week at CYT Summer Camp and LOVED it. They learned and practiced dances, songs and scripts for a production performed for parents at the end of the week. They also played games and had outdoor time and a water day. The camp is affordable, and I picked up on a Living Social deal for half price. The staff was great and the production was very cute. My only complaint was it was very hard to see the children in the performance, since it was not performed on a raised stage.
