We went to the Shedd on MLK day. The trick to enjoying a free day at the Shedd is to get there right when it opens. The free day only gives you the aquarium, so we upgraded to be able to enjoy the new Fantasea show. We had a great time...the kids loved dressing like penguins and sliding down the ice slide, playing in the submarine, spashing in the touch and feel tide pool area and we all loved the Fantasea show. If you are only going for the free aquarium portion, know that you won't be there too long...maybe 2 hours tops. But there are fun things to do for the kids there, too....the staff brought out snakes to pet and the kids liked trying to find the fish shown on the interactive computers. Like I said, if you are going on a free day...get there EARLY!
We went on a free day and the kids loved Caribbean reef, but not much else. Ended up upgrading because we would have been done in about an hour. Coming from the suburbs, it would been a long drive for the time there.
We went on a free day and it was the first time we have been there. I am glad it was a free day because I do not feel the regular fee is worth what you see. We liked seeing what we were able to see without paying extra for the other exhibits - I just don't think it was outstanding especially if you had to pay.
We went on the free days and it was terribly crowded, the children were getting frustated but they did have some fun on the exhibits they did get to see, I will visit soon again the kids want to see spongebob 3d.
