The 7,500-square-foot Model Railroad Garden features 17 garden-scale (G-scale) trains on 1,600 feet of track. The garden-scale trains are 1/29th the size of life-sized trains. Train and garden enthusiasts, young and old, return year after year for the delightful sights and sounds of the miniature trains traversing high and low through tunnels, across bridges, and around buildings — all intricately handcrafted with natural materials, including twigs, bark, leaves, acorns, and pebbles. More than 5,000 tiny trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and flowering plants of close to 300 varieties re-create the topographical landscape of America. Vignettes of tiny people and animals give the exhibit a storybook feel, while sound effects and a working geyser capture visitors’ imaginations.

My son loves the railroad garden! The railroad garden is fun for adults and children. In October the railroad garden is decorated for Halloween. Botanic Gardens members are free on Wednesdays.
This was so much fun! I think I may have enjoyed the exhibit more than my kids. I would come back by myself to spend more time and check out all the details. My kids were not willing to hang out in one area for too long.
We went this summer and once again enjoyed it--we were there early evening, so it was a little buggy, but pretty empty. This time they had a volcano that erupted every few minutes that my son liked a lot.
My sister took her family here and her son loved it. In fact he was just telling me about it the other day. I have been here before for the kite days and some evening concerts. I do think you can ever go wrong going here. General Admission is free and parking is $20. the train garden is extra but it is worth it.
You must take your little ones to see these exhibits atleast 1x! We have sooo much recorded footage of the neat train track set ups. We go once a season and I drop my son off with my husband or vice versa so we don't have to pay for parking. On occasion they will offer a free admission day, so watch for that
kids will be thrill with the train setting , even parents enjoys. it big place so we only did few spot in the garden with my 2 small kids.it is really nice to walk aroud with beatiuful outdoor garden
I take my boys there a few times during the summer and each time they find something new and thoroughly enjoy it. It's open late, and the crowds are biggest in the morning. They don't allow strollers in, so plan on bringing a Baby Bjorn for little ones.
