The White Palace Grill, open since 1939, might be the finest example of an urban diner in Chicago. A beacon on the northeast corner of Canal and Roosevelt, this diner has managed to stick around while other businesses have come and gone.
In addition to an extensive lunch and dinner menu, the White Palace Grill serves up eggs practically any way you can think of 24 hours a day. The diner attracts city workers, policemen, firemen, business people, college students, politicians, the afterhours club crowd and just about anybody. The mix of people is terrific and diverse. It is an urban oasis.
White Palace is an ok restaurant. I like that it is open 24 hours but I really didn't see anything on the menu that enticed me. But I did order breakfast and it was ok. This restaurant is always crowded.
White Palace is your local Diner.. the food is good with good prices. They have a children' menu and highchairs but it can be cramped when busy- so leave the stroller at home
