Across the street from the historic Water Tower, you'll find American Girl Place Chicago. Girls of all ages will love immersing themselves in all the specialty shops, featuring their favorite characters - plus the Cafe, Theater, and more.
We go every year around Christmas time with my daughter, niece, mother in law, and sister in law. We have the lunch there, but there are only a few items to choose from. We all wish they had more on the menu to choose from. It is very pricey for everything, but this is our annual holiday tradition. The girls really enjoy it, so that makes me happy.
Great for a special occasion. My daughters birthday is 12/28 so for a combined birthday & Christmas gift, we went. It cast a lot of money, but we knew that going, we had dinner at the restaurant and thought the food & service was great. perfect for little girls
We spent the night at the Westin on Michigan ave and then walked to American girl in the morning. We did not buy dolls because we are waiting for bdays...but they were able to pick something small. Not easy to find there but...they have a little area where you can make tshirts. They pick the shirt and transfer and create a shirt for their doll. It costs $10...perfect!!!!
We went for lunch (make reservations in advance), and had a wonderful time. The food was very good, and the kids loved the fancy dining with their dolls. Lots of shopping opportunities for dolls and accessories. We coupled our trip with the Hancock Observatory which is right across the street. A memorable day!
The best place to take your daughters to for a special time. Once a year for the past 4 years, my mother and I take my 3 girls for a special luncheon with their dolls. It is part of their birthday present. Great food, great service, so much food you could never eat it all. My girls look forward to it every year.
If you do not want to buy your daughter a doll, you can go and look at the dolls and have for a little tea party there. I have heard that it is very special. I have bought several AG things for my 9 years old niece and they have all been of good quaility but on the pricey side. I am trying to keep my 4 year old away from this as long as I can.
my 7 year old has gone there now for 2 birthday parties. Last year she was overwhelmed, but this year she had her American Girl doll to take with and seemed to have enjoyed it much better. They are very helpful. My husband went to buy our daughter a doll before Christmas, he went in and was helped right away and was on his way. Exactly what he needed!
My 12 year old has many AG Dolls and she loved going downtown. She loved to buy the matching outfits for her and her doll. She is outgrowing them. She won't give them up but she doesn't ask to go there much anymore. My 4 year old on the other had, has just discovered Bitty Babies. She got one for her 3rd birthday. She didn't play with it much but this year she is really into it. She is asking to go to the Bitty Baby's house for tea so I'm sure we will be heading downtown for an adventure soon.
This is where we take Grandma when she comes in town. The son and I go down the street to Legoland and Grandma and his twin sister hit this place up. So cute, lunch if you want it, pick out new dolls, or accessories, or get their hair styled, so many things to do, it's almost overload. Like too much chocolate is overload. I think it is one of, if not THE only store for AGD that you can actually GO to.
The kids and went downtown the day after Thanksgiving to have lunch at the American Girl Store. Crazy snowstorm but it was great!! It was our first time there. So we just had to buy a doll before lunch started which was fine. The food was very good and the kids portion where just the right size. No doggie bags needed. The staff was very friendly and explained everything. We parking across the street in the garage and had our ticket validated. If you park in Water Tower our out of luck, as our friends learned the hard way. The parking garage info is on there web-site. I believe this will become a new family tradition or as long as she likes the dolls.
